Since I only used CBD oils before this review, I was excited to try the Wyld CBD jelly beans, mostly because I love gum candy. I also hesitated a bit and wasn’t sure if a CBD gum would be as effective as oil to calm my anxiety and help me fall asleep.
There isn’t a lot of research comparing CBD oils to CBD jelly beans, but Dr. Culpepper points out that jelly beans can only be absorbed by the digestive system, while CBD oil can be absorbed in two ways. “When any of these products are swallowed and digested, it can take up to two hours for the desired effects to occur,” he explains. “However, oil can also be absorbed sublingually, which acts more quickly. If you let the oil sit in your mouth before swallowing, some of the CBD can be absorbed by the blood vessels under your tongue, so you can experience the benefits in five to 10 minutes.
In other words, it will take longer to feel the effects of a gum compared to an oil (as long as you let it rest on your tongue). Although it took me at least an hour to feel the effects, I was relieved to see that the effect of taking these CBD jelly beans, which I thought were delicious, was similar to CBD oil. I experienced a feeling of calm alertness when I took them, and if I doubled the dose, I felt very drowsy and calm. I also liked this, although CBD oil can be difficult to measure consistently, pre-provided jelly beans make it easy to know exactly how much CBD you are ingesting. If Wyld’s customer service department can provide more information about the product’s COA, they’ll probably ask for it again.
