When choosing a hemp CBD oil, make sure it is made from high quality hemp. Ideally, the hemp is organic (a major plus if it’s also locally sourced!), or at the very least, it shouldn’t be GMO.
Inactive ingredients are also important. “Consider the diluent oil, is it high-quality organic coconut oil, organic hemp seed oil, organic EVOO, or something like that? That’s important in assessing the overall quality of a tincture. hemp CBD oil,” explains mindbodygreen Vice President of Scientific Affairs Ashley Jordan Feira, Ph.D., RDN.
Read the full ingredient lists to make sure there are no artificial flavors or sweeteners, synthetic colors or chemical preservatives.
By definition, since the product is a CBD oil, there will be fat present. “Hemp extract is diluted and carried by a diluent oil. Although the science is still emerging, it is believed that the presence of fats, such as coconut MCT oil, aids in optimal absorption of the cannabinoids from hemp,” adds Feira.
