Malta To Completely Legalise CBD Oil And Other Products When Weed Law Passes

Malta will fully legalize CBD oil and other products made from cannabis-derived compounds once a historic weed reform bill is passed.

“CBD products can be used for face creams, shampoos, clothing and other products, and can even be used in coffee and tea,” Reform Minister Owen Bonnici said when he introduced this bill in Parliament earlier this week. “Once this law is passed, CBD products will be able to circulate freely in Malta.”

This will be done by removing the term “Indian hemp” (qanneb Indjan) from the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, which was defined as all cannabis plants or any plant in the plant, excluding its fiber or seeds.

It will be replaced by a new definition of cannabis as plant products that do not include more than 0.2% tetrahydrocannabinoyl (THC).

CBD has been gaining momentum in the world of health and wellness in recent years for its ability to relieve pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of cannabis.

Malta’s decision to liberalize the sale of CBD follows a November 2020 ruling by the EU Court of Justice that ruled that CBD is not a narcotic and could therefore circulate freely in EU markets.

“A member state cannot ban the marketing of cannabidiol (CBD) legally produced in another member state when it is extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant in its entirety and not just from its fiber and seeds,” the court said. .
