A man with more than 40 previous convictions has been fined 150 euros for stealing a bottle of CBD oil from a Longford pharmacy.
Kamil Bulczak (33), St Martha’s Hostel, Knockahaw, Athlone Road, Longford, was charged with robbery following an incident at Lloyd’s Pharmacy, Longford on February 9, 2022.
Mr Bulczak, who was received by local prosecutor John Quinn, initially went to court to reveal that he stole the item on the day due to the fact that he was suffering from schizophrenia and had no medication on the day of the incident.
State Sergeant Enda Daly said guards were called to the pharmacy shortly after 9:30 a.m., where CCTV was obtained from the incident.
It was said that the defendant was seen putting the oil, which was priced at almost 20 euros, in his pocket before leaving.
The court was informed that the oil was later recovered and Mr. Bulczak made “full admissions” to the Guard.
Quinn, at the time, said her client also made written admissions to investigators and cooperated fully with detectives.
It was revealed that the accused was a man with 43 previous convictions, most of them for offenses of assault and public order.
The most recent of these was recorded in January 2021 for public order.
Quinn said her client was a man suffering from medical difficulties, but that he was someone who was doing his best to address them.
“The property was recovered. He is following the doctors’ regimen, taking his medication and regretting the incident, “he said.
Judge Owens said that due to the fact that the article was recovered and how Mr. Bulczak had accepted his guilt at an early stage, saying the most appropriate sanction was a 150-euro fine, which gave him six months to pay in the process.
