In the Drops: Universal Colours gilet, Honest Hemp chamois cream, Hornit Clug Pro and Sir David Attenborough

Since tonight is Bonfire Night, I hope you have a candy apple on hand for this week’s In the Drops.

I’m Emma Cole, editorial assistant at Cyclist and they do everything sustainable, adventurous and a bit of a niche. You’ll find me writing on the website and in the magazine and trying out a lot of fun equipment.

This week at Cyclist we marveled at the grimaces of the 2021 National Mountain Climbing Championships as runners battled biblical conditions and celebrated the return of RideLondon in 2022.

Gear guru Will Strickson covered POC by releasing his lighter goggles and Giant’s latest Revolt Advanced gravel bike, while digital editor Joe Robinson compiled the good, bad and ugly of the season. professional cycling 2021; sure there were some real clangers.

We have the reference guide on the latest update to the Brompton range, so if you like your chances at the Brompton World Champions, I suggest you come along and check it out.

Christmas is approaching (can you say that word?) Is fast approaching, so check out our guide to the best gifts for cyclists to find the perfect gift for the cyclist of your life … or for you, nobody judges it.

The most important thing is that issue 120 of Cyclist magazine is already on sale, so grab a copy and a cup of tea, or a G&T, after all it’s Friday.

Universal Colors Chroma unisex insulated jacket

Despite all the sadness and sadness coming out of COP26 this week, there seems to be some light in the tunnel of the cycling industry.

Among the brands leading the creation of more sustainable cycling equipment is Universal Colors. It makes a modern, progressive kit designed to be kind to the planet.

This unisex chalet uses environmentally friendly water repellent technology and is made in part with post-consumer waste.

It also claims to be highly technical, basically using body heat to regulate temperature, storing it and releasing it when needed.

The gym is reflective and has three back pockets with a single zipped pocket so you don’t lose your keys and store it when you’re not in use. Tidy up, right?

It is presented in slate gray and fir green.

Honest hemp chamois cream

The dreaded saddle ulcer is one of the main dangers of cycling and it is best to avoid it.

Honest Hemp has launched a chamois cream, as part of its Active range.

The key ingredients in chamois cream are hemp oil and menthol, which according to the brand lighten and cool the skin while making a good anti-friction duo.

An added advantage is that the cream can also be used on dry skin, as its ingredients make it versatile.

Hemp oil is a derivative of the cannabis plant and is made by cold pressing hemp seeds into an omega-rich cooking oil. It does not contain any of the most famous psychoactive ingredients in cannabis, THC.

Honest Hemp chamois cream contains a balance of Omega 3, 6 and 9, plant products, which the company claims help to soothe the skin.

It should be noted that hemp oil is different from its cousin, CBD oil, which is made by extracting the CBD compound from the leaves, stems and flowers of the plant and is also believed to have medicinal properties. . Don’t miss our explanation of CBD for cyclists.

Honest Hemp chamois cream has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, as would be expected from this product, and is cruelty free.

Hornit Clug Pro

Hornit has released an even lighter version of its previous storage rack, in the shape of a Clug Pro, which weighs 26 g.

It uses a magnetic winch handle and a ratchet system to secure your bike, hugging the bike’s tire, and there’s an adjustable drawstring to accommodate all tire shapes and sizes.

Mounted with screws and wall plugs, this small bike rack is designed to support up to 30kg, so it’s more than enough for the average road bike and some, and a bike can be stored vertically or horizontally depending on your preferences.

The roadie version (pictured) is suitable for tire widths between 23 mm and 32 mm.

It comes in all different sizes: roadie, hybrid, MTB, MTB XL and more, which fits 70-81 mm tires, that is, enough for absolute people.

The Clug Pro is also visually appealing, mainly because you can barely see it.

What we are in this week: Sir David Attenborough’s speech at COP26 and life imprisonment

If you like sustainability like me, you will have been watching COP26 closely.

Last week’s highlights have been Boris Johnson facing a backlash for not wearing a mask while sitting next to Sir David Attenborough and reports of people employed as official cushions for the event.

However, Sir David Attenborough’s phenomenal speech is the one that deserves more airtime here.

Video of Sir David Attenborough’s speech to world leaders at COP26: full speech

In so many weather speeches, there may be an overwhelming message of despair, but Attenborough chose to outline the issues and then focus on hope, saying that “our motivation should not be fear, but the hope “.

He also added that to limit global warming we need “a new industrial revolution, driven by millions of sustainable innovations.”

I read it because we need more people to ride bikes. If that’s not a reason to go out with your bike, I don’t know what is.

I find the justice system fascinating and the stories that come out of it even more so.

14 years ago, the nation was caught up in the murder of 21-year-old British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy. Her roommate, Amanda Knox, was jailed for four years but was later exonerated by the Italian Supreme Court in 2015.

Knox spoke to BBC Woman’s Hour in his first interview in the UK for a long time about how he thinks his case would look today, and it’s an absolutely fascinating listen.

Following the topic of prison (and the BBC, come on), I’ve been watching a big TV show called Back to Life. This is a woman who returns to the small village where she grew up after spending 18 years in prison after committing a terrible crime.

It’s fun, weird and a total respite from anything else you might be doing. You also drag your hair if you feel like nostalgia.
