Gigi Hadid was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after flying to the Cayman Islands from the US last week.
The 28-year-old supermodel, who was traveling with friend Leah Nicole McCarthy, arrived on a private jet at Owen Roberts International Airport on July 10 and cleared customs with her luggage; Customs and Border Control agents found a small amount of ganja and paraphernalia. for consuming ganja after scanning their belongings.
The marijuana was determined to be “for personal use only,” but Hadid and McCarthy were arrested on suspicion of “importation of marijuana and importation of paraphernalia used for the consumption of marijuana.”
The pair were processed at the Royal Cayman Islands Detention Center and later released on bail, pending prosecution, local channel Cayman Marl Road reports.
Hadid and McCarthy appeared in Summary Court on July 12 and pleaded guilty. Both were fined $1,000 and kept the conviction off their records.
Cannabis in the Cayman Islands is illegal, but limited use of CBD oil has been allowed for medical purposes since 2016.

Hadid’s rep said: “Gigi was traveling with marijuana legally purchased in New York with a medical license.
“He has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. His record remains clear and he enjoyed the rest of his time on the island.”

This comes after Gigi’s ex Zayn Malik broke his silence on his confrontation with her mother Yolanda Hadid, which saw him charged with four counts of harassment.
The former One Direction star, 30, pleaded no contest to charges after he pushed her into a commode and called her a “dutch f*****g sl*t” in September 2021.
Court documents revealed he must complete 360 days of probation in addition to completing an anger management class.
During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Zayn said he believes he handled the situation “in the best way” and described the incident as “family issues.”
The singer said: “I don’t get involved when people talk online. What’s most valuable to me is time and I don’t want to be justifying myself.
“I knew what the situation was and I knew what was going on and the people involved know what was going on and that’s all that matters.

“I didn’t want to draw attention and I didn’t want to get a negative and a quarter with her [or] any kind of narrative for my daughter to read.
“I think I dealt with it in the best way and that’s all there is to say. It was a lot of negativity.
“These are family issues that I prefer to keep in the family. I am very much within my son’s reach, if I could have 60 percent I would take it.”
On September 29, 2021, Yolanda went to the property that Zayn shared with his ex Gigi Hadid while modeling in Paris.

Gigi declined to comment in detail on the matter, but later released a statement through her rep saying: “Gigi is solely focused on what is best for Khai. She is asking for privacy during this time.
Zayn released a statement on social media confirming that there was an incident, that he pleaded no contest (although it was unclear at the time that he had been criminally charged) and that he was trying to protect his daughter.
He denied attacking Yolanda, as reported by TMZ, citing an unnamed source.
