Mercedes C. Young he is an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. She has the titles of actress, writer and television producer, author of children’s books and serial entrepreneur. While writing a book, acting on paper, and producing, he founded a cannabis company, Earth’s Dew, during the pandemic. Earth’s Dew products are made with all-natural organic butter and oils.
Young gained a loyal following among its customers through word-of-mouth marketing and the sale of great products. Young is among the insignificant 4% of black women entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry. Despite this, most people who carry cannabis convictions are disproportionately black.
BLACK COMPANY talked to Young about why she started a business in the cannabis space, the difficulties she faced in starting a pandemic business as a black woman, and how she combined her artistic and creative work with her business. newly created.
You set up a cannabis company, Earth’s Dew, during the pandemic they see products ranging from CBD teas, edibles, body butters, to name a few. What sparked your interest in entering the cannabis space and why during the coronavirus crisis?
I grew up in a home that was deeply rooted in the Christian faith. I’ve always thought that Cannabis was a horrible thing and a sin to consume, so of course I was he stayed away from anything related to cannabis. In In 2015, my father was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive and malignant brain cancer. He had two successful surgeries to remove the tumors, but they came back. After countless radiation treatments and chemotherapy sessions, I started doing research on homeopathy treatments. This led me to discover the miraculous benefits of the cannabis plant. Both THC and CBD are known to kill cancer cells, relieve pain, regulate and prevent diabetes, reduce seizures, sleep aids, repairing broken bones, relieving anxiety and more. I decided treat it orally with pure oil extraction of THC and CBD. After weeks of this trial, the results returned and showed a reduction in tumor size. He was then convinced that God put this natural plant on the earth to heal us and don’t hurt us.
We are making rapid progress to quarantine 2020. It didn’t work because the world was closed, so I prayed to God and asked him to help me get an idea for a business. And the Lord led to create a totally natural and organic brand that helps holistic healing derived from plants. BOthers of my Fathers (my heavenly and my earthly) helped me to create the dew of the Earth. One of my passions is to stigmatize and redefine cannabis while educating people about it the wonderful benefits it offers.
With figures that go considerably against black business owners in the cannabis industry, how you are finding success in selling your products and thriving during these times?
It is nothing but the grace of God. About anything you think happened that tried to stop me from staying in business. The difference of other companies, this is still a relatively new and highly regulated industry, so it had none mentor or how to navigate this space. I’m really passionate about helping people. People who suffer Convulsions, insomnia, debilitating pain, anxiety are greatly appreciated for the relief we offer. This is the secret of our brand: high quality products that work. You can also order ours products online to be shipped to your home, which makes it easier for consumers.
You are also an actress, producer and writer in the television and film industry and you have he wrote two children’s books, Look at all my hair can do and I can Do anything! How to Spend Time on Your Creative Business business as an entrepreneur?
That’s a big question. It was definitely A challenge to try to juggle all these hats, but I just got to where the dew of the Earth can operate autonomously. My agent can send a six-page audition, and it will be 12 hours after receiving it. And when I’m on set filming, my schedule is completely darkened, and acting is the only thing I focus on because you have to be very present and in the moment. I write when I am inspired. The only time I have to stand is when I am in elementary schools or youth programs reading books to children, which is one of mine favorite things to do! A timetable, established parameters and discipline are key to failure allowing things to fall by the wayside.
Being a black woman, I’m sure you face challenges based on your gender and career. How to navigate these difficulties to overcome as an entrepreneur and artist?
In a camp of less than 4% of black women who own cannabis, there are so many challenges I face based on my gender and race. Everything from the way I look when I attend cannabis conferences to being he asked me if I was in the right place, until I couldn’t get distribution deals on the site dispensaries. As an artist, Hollywood is finally coming to a place where we are creating more roles, specifically, after the Black Lives Matter movement. This has been the most diverse period that I’ve witnessed it before, and I’m proud of the progress, but we still have a long way to go. especially during the awards season.
What advice would you give to anyone who is passionate about their career and wants to? do it right and stay consistent in what they do?
My advice would be to find out your “why”. When your passion and purpose intersect, then you know you’re right Way. The winners never gave up, and the ones who give up never win. It’s okay to sacrifice a year of your life to create one Best 50 years where you and your seeds can reap the harvest of your work. Keep God first because if you have God first, you will never be last.
