It has herbs, dried flowers, oils … CBD products are enjoying increasing success. Rightly so?
The CBD experience
Magali, 45, was very upset during the first confinement: “Working at home with the children increased my anxiety. A friend told me about a place that sold CBD (cannabidiol) based oils.
I tried it and it worked for me. Like Magali, many of us have enjoyed CBD oils, herbal teas, and flower teas. “During the confinements, many people were stressed, insomnia or depressed,” says Patrick Bédué, creator of CBD Expo France, the first French exhibition dedicated to professionals in the sector, which was held in Paris last October. As all the shops were closed, they ordered products online. If the sites have expanded, the stores have quickly followed suit.
Beneficial effects
Lending to CBD, derived from hemp flowers, has many beneficial effects: it helps fight stress and insomnia, relieves pain, relieves nausea … Where do these virtues come from? Knowledge about cannabidiol is fairly recent. If we isolate the molecule in the 1940s, the discovery of the endocannabinoid system dates back to the 1990s.
However, when we consume CBD, it interacts with these receptors. Hence the appearance of beneficial effects: it has anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, analgesic and anticonvulsant actions. Small problem: at the moment, we do not have scientific studies strong enough to validate these different benefits. So does CBD work for everyone? Not always. Because every endocannabinoid system is unique. Jerome, 52, often has a headache. He tried to take a CBD oil. “I swallowed three drops of 10% oil for fifteen days. But I haven’t seen any change. While my cousin, who also suffers from a headache, has benefited a lot from it ”. The question of the “right dose” is legitimate.
How much to consume?
Oils show a percentage of CBD ranging from 5 to 25%. Some brands offer a grid to assess the number of drops to consume according to the type of disorder (stress, pain, etc.) and weight. For his part, Dr. Douek advises starting with low doses (1 to 2 drops of 5% oil) and watching what happens. “If we have no effect, we will gradually increase the doses. Every three days, add a drop until you get the benefits.
And keep that dose. »Is there a dose of CBD that should not be exceeded? “There is no consensus on this point, but it is accepted that an indication of well-being should be limited to 150 mg of CBD per day,” says Pascal Douek.
Like any plant-derived active ingredient, it can induce pharmacological interactions (with anticoagulants, antidepressants, etc.). Ask your doctor for advice before consuming these products if you are on long-term treatment or if you have a chronic illness.
And local applications?
Because CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, the creams and balms that contain it can be helpful in relieving athletes’ muscles during recovery. Ditto for acne-oriented cosmetics.
