Kannaway, the direct-selling subsidiary of Medical Marijuana, Inc., announced a historic victory in Finland in its legal battle to legally import cannabidiol oil (CBD).
“We have been leaders in bringing CBD to Finland, as well as many other European countries,” said Kannaway® CEO Blake Schroeder. “We knew that our operations and sales were legal in Finland, but receiving this ruling from the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland is promising for the future of our company and the entire industry. We are well on our way to becoming the first company. of truly global cannabis in the world “.
Although the company has had an active presence in Finland for years, Finnish customs confiscated a bottle of Kannaway Pure Gold in 2018, alleging that it had been illegally imported. Citing that the FIMEA (Finnish Medicines Agency) lists CBD as a medicinal ingredient, the Finnish Customs Authority adopted what the company calls “a general approach” to treating all CBD products as medicines.
With this legal victory, the Supreme Administrative Court of Finland declared that “any product, according to EU directives, should be classified as a case-by-case medicine with specific claims about therapeutic effects, dosage and supporting evidence”. ”Following the review, the Supreme Administrative Court considered Kannaway pure gold hemp oil to be a non-medicinal product.
“This is a big win for Kannaway,” Kannaway International Managing Director Janne Heimonen said. “Certainly, the European hemp industry will also benefit, but we are proud that our company acted, fought and won. We hope this sets an important precedent for other EU jurisdictions where national hemp agencies medicine have had a similar opinion. For many years we have been fighting to show that, by law, we do not sell medicines, but that our CBD oil is a nutritional supplement. ”
